Leaving Silicon Valley . . . Electro-Optics, Inc. Builds the Business in Traverse City

Electro-Optics was founded in California’s Silicon Valley by its owner and President, Dave Scerbek back in 1987. But Scerbak and an college buddy from Albion, Mike Torrance had plans for a better life. They moved the company to Traverse City in 1992 and signed up their new technology designer and Traverse City native, Jim Niessink. Soon, they were breaking ground with a new optical isolator for laser applications and the business took off.

Today, Electro-Optics is a rapidly expanding laser technology development and manufacturing firm. With nearly 100 employees and a new building under construction, the company is now doing a substantial business with China as well as organizations across the U.S.

Faraday Rotators

EOT's Faraday Rotators rotate the plane of polarized light 45° in the forward direction and an additional 45° of non-reciprocal rotation in the reverse direction while maintaining the light's linear polarization.

EOT's Mode Stripping Collimators utilize EOT's patented monolithic mode stripping fiber ferrule/collimator technology. This technology minimizes optical loss while maintaining excellent beam quality and a high level of resistance to back reflections.
